In this hands-on challenge, students will work in teams to design and build their own water filtration systems using an assortment of materials. Using water collected from the Bronx River, groups will compete to create the most effective filter for removing particles and improving water quality. After testing their designs with pH strips, students will compare results and learn about real-world water purification methods and environmental issues. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams, and all participants will receive informational materials to better understand how filtration impacts clean water access.
